    Application of Embryonic Stem Cells on Parkinson's Disease Therapy

    Embryonic stem (ES) cells have the ability to reproduce themselves for a long period and differentiate into specific morphological and functional cells. The ES cells are an important material in developmental biology, genomics, and transgenic methods, as well as in potential clinical applications, gene therapy and tissue engineering. The pluripotent ES cells will be a valuable source in the treatment of numerous functional degenerative pathologies including Parkinson's disease (PD), which is characterized by progressive and selective loss of dopaminergic neurons in the midbrain substantia nigra. Thus, the most important for using ES cells in PD therapy is to direct their differentiation into dopaminergic phenotype to replace the degenerated cells. In this review, we summarize the neural differentiation directing protocol, transplantation results, and behavioral recovery of ES cells derived dopaminergic neurons in the therapeutic studies in PD animal models

    New wine in old bottles: The figure painting of Ren Bonian (1840-1895) in the context of nineteenth century Shanghai.

    Ren Yi, self-styled Bonian (1840-1895), is rightly considered as one of the most prolific painters in late nineteenth century Shanghai. Like many of his contemporaries, the life of Ren Bonian was much entangled with social and economic change in the international city where new and old, local and foreign enterprises were assembled at that time. On this account his paintings often present a strong visual effect and delightful mood, as well as novelty, popularity and diversity to attract audience and facilitate commerce. This dissertation poses three broad questions: what was the relationship between the changes in society and artistic directions? What role do Ren Bonian's figure paintings play in the social relations of power, including those of class and gender? How do these help us to understand the artistic trends in Shanghai at that time'.' With equal attention given to history and art history, this dissertation provides a solid biography of Ren Bonian and a survey of the world in which painters such as Ren Bonian and his contemporaries lived in the first two chapters. In the third chapter, we explore the sources of Ren Bonian's learning, the roots of and the inspirations for his artistic language. Taking three types of his figure painting as examples, in the following chapter, our concern includes the popular literature, patronage and sexuality that possibly inspired Ren Bonian's choice of subject matter and visual performance. In the fifth chapter, we discuss the influences of both traditional training and the foreign stimuli on Ren Bonian's portraiture. The sixth chapter focuses on the serious problem of forgeries in relation to the rapid growth of his fame brought by Shen Bao and other media through the reproductions of his painting.     TCN AA: A Wi Fi based Temporal Convolution Network for Human to Human Interaction Recognition with Augmentation and Attention

    The utilization of Wi-Fi-based human activity recognition (HAR) has gained considerable interest in recent times, primarily owing to its applications in various domains such as healthcare for monitoring breath and heart rate, security, elderly care, and others. These Wi-Fi-based methods exhibit several advantages over conventional state-of-the-art techniques that rely on cameras and sensors, including lower costs and ease of deployment. However, a significant challenge associated with Wi-Fi-based HAR is the significant decline in performance when the scene or subject changes. To mitigate this issue, it is imperative to train the model using an extensive dataset. In recent studies, the utilization of CNN-based models or sequence-to-sequence models such as LSTM, GRU, or Transformer has become prevalent. While sequence-to-sequence models can be more precise, they are also more computationally intensive and require a larger amount of training data. To tackle these limitations, we propose a novel approach that leverages a temporal convolution network with augmentations and attention, referred to as TCN-AA. Our proposed method is computationally efficient and exhibits improved accuracy even when the data size is increased threefold through our augmentation techniques. Our experiments on a publicly available dataset indicate that our approach outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods, with a final accuracy of 99.42%.Comment: Published to IEEE Internet of things Journal but haven't been accepted yet (under review

    Because of the booming of internet technology and the great promotion internet portal, on-line exchange is more popular in the recent years. This study attempts to integrate concepts of Information Integrate Theory; Anchoring and Adjustment Method to explore the buyer’s trade behavior between two different cultures. After observing the historical data on Yahoo’s Taiwan and Yahoo’s America, the anchoring effect and order effect during the process of a C2C auction is proposed in this study. Chinese buyers seem willing to pay much their attention on pricing during the whole process of an auction than American people do. But, the same phenomenon does exist for American doing a bid on a higher-priced luxury commodity. It sounds for a luxury product, there is a common pricing strategy existed between people of two different cultures. The results provide a very promised direction for knowledge capture and decision analysis for trading, and more works for data mining on pricing for different commodities, cultures, or other kinds of variables related to products and members of market might be a possible future approach for building a knowledge management system for a pricing mechanism for the market
